Activities: Canoeing in Clayoquot Sound

Tla ook is a First Nations owned and operated company offering canoe tours aboard an authentic cedar dugout canoe. The Nuu-chah-nulth canoe design is recognized as one of the finest and most efficient hull designs in the world. It has been designed by people who have lived on the West Coast of Vancouver Island for thousands of years, for conditions of the ocean in its many moods. The stability of the canoe has been developed over a very long time and today it is one of the most seaworthy crafts that have ever been put to use on this coast.

Tours - Everyone gets to paddle as your Native guides share with you the knowledge and experience of their people here in Clayoquot Sound.

Meares Island ancient rainforest/Wild Grocery Walk - Meares Island is well known for its tremendous oldgrowth forest. This island is in the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht people, and was an abundant source of resources for them. Having never been logged, there are many culturally modified trees on Meares Island, along with a wealth of edible indigenous plant life. Your guides are expert in these areas and will provide you with an educational and enjoyable afternoon in the 10,000-year-old forest.

Harbor Explorer - This trip takes you on a circular route in the Tofino
harbour, or around Stubbs Island. There are many sites rich with Native
history in this area, along with a wide variety of wildlife that can often
be seen by the paddlers of a silently moving canoe. This trip is most often scheduled around the sunset, although it can be undertaken early in the morning, or at any time throughout the day

Cluptl-Chas - Full Day Adventure. Paddle the canoes over fishing grounds and clambeds as your guides tell the history of the Tla-o-qui-aht people and their environment. You will visit Echachist Island, the site of an old summer village where fishermen and whalers would base themselves for their summer hunts. Once on the island, you will learn about some of the plants and places that make the island unique. Upon returning to the beach, this memorable tour will end with a seafood feast of Wild Salmon and other local delights.
